Massive Craft Distillation Unit - Complete Copper Distillation Unit
- Hand-built copper whiskey stills from 3 to 50 gallons, priced $229 to $2,999.
- Most come complete with pot, thumper and worm, built from heavy 20 oz copper with lead-free silver solder.
- Owning a still is federally legal; distilling spirits to drink needs a TTB permit, and state laws vary.
How to Choose a Copper Whiskey Still
A copper whiskey still has three main jobs. The pot heats your wash. The thumper redistills the vapor once more on its way through. The worm, a coiled copper tube in cold water, cools the vapor back into liquid. Look for a still that includes all three so you are not hunting for parts later.
Pay attention to the build. Thick copper holds heat evenly and stands up to years of heating and cooling. Lead-free silver solder keeps the joints safe and strong. Every still we sell is cut, rolled, formed, soldered, tested, adjusted and inspected before it leaves the building.
- Complete setup: pot, thumper and worm (or condenser)
- Heavy copper, not thin sheet
- Lead-free silver solder at every joint
- Ports and caps that seal well, like our EZ Seal Cap
Whiskey Still Sizes: 3 to 50 Gallons
Size is the biggest choice you will make. A small still heats up fast and is easy to move and clean. A bigger still does more in one run but needs more heat and more room. Our sizing guide walks through it step by step.
- 3 to 6 gallons: great for learning and small batches. See small copper stills.
- 10 to 15 gallons: the most popular middle ground for hobbyists.
- 20 to 30 gallons: for experienced users who run often.
- 50 gallons: our largest still on this page, paired with a 10 gallon thumper and 10 gallon worm.
What Comes in the Box
Read the product title closely. It tells you what is included. Titles that say "Complete" or "with Thumper and Worm" include the full setup. Many of our 25 and 30 gallon Advanced Models come with a 6 gallon thumper, a 6 gallon worm and a 1/2 inch coil. Some 15 gallon stills add the EZ Seal Cap and a 4 inch thumper port. The 3 gallon flash sale still is sold with no thumper.

Heat Source and Flame Flow™ Technology
These stills need a heat source under the pot, such as a propane burner. Our patented Flame Flow™ stills (U.S. Patent 10,561,960) are built for faster heat-up, even temperature, less wasted propane and less scorching. Learn more on our Flame Flow page. If you would rather plug in, we also build 110V and 220V electric stills.
Even heat matters because different liquids boil at different temperatures. Ethanol boils near 173°F (78°C) and water at 212°F (100°C). Steady heat makes it easier to control a run. As an alchemist, you are working with heat and vapor, and good copper gives you more control over both.
Who These Stills Are For, and Why Heavy Copper
These stills suit hobbyists, makers and anyone who wants a hands-on science project with real copper. It is legal under federal law to own a still of any size and use it for distilled water or essential oils. Making spirits to drink requires a federal TTB permit, even for personal use, and state laws can be stricter. Read more in are stills legal to own? We don't give legal advice.
Cheap thin imported stills can dent, warp and heat unevenly. Our 20 oz, 22 gauge copper is much heavier, and every copper still is backed by a lifetime warranty. "I build each still the way I would want my own built: heavy, tested, and ready to work." — Alchemist G.G. Wilkins
Frequently asked questions
How much does a whiskey still cost?
On this page, complete copper stills range from $229 for a 3 gallon still to $2,999 for our patented 30 gallon Flame Flow™ still. Most 10 to 30 gallon stills fall between about $899 and $1,300. Price depends on size, extras like the thumper and worm, and whether it uses Flame Flow™ technology.
Is it legal to buy a whiskey still?
Yes. Under US federal law you can buy and own a still of any size and use it for things like distilled water and essential oils. Distilling spirits to drink is not legal without a federal TTB permit, even for personal use. State and local laws vary, so check yours.
Why is copper used for a whiskey still?
Copper spreads heat well and evenly, which helps you control your run. Heavy copper also holds up over time. Our stills use thick 20 oz, 22 gauge American copper joined with lead-free silver solder.
How do you make a still for whiskey?
A still is a sealed pot, a vapor path, and a condenser that cools vapor back to liquid, often with a thumper in between. If you want to build one yourself, our EZ KIT you-solder kits give you the pre-cut parts. See our DIY moonshine still kits to get started.
What size whiskey still should I buy?
Beginners often start with a 6 to 10 gallon still because it is easy to handle and heats quickly. If you plan to run often and have the space, a 20 to 30 gallon still does more per run. Our sizing guide explains the trade-offs.
Do your stills come with a warranty?
Yes. Our copper stills come with a lifetime warranty. You can call 1-502-337-3944 for support straight from the owner.
