Choosing a 50 Gallon Copper Still or a 100 Gallon Still
Size is the first choice. A 50 gallon still is a big step up from home-size stills and still fits in a garage or shop. A 100 gallon still is for people who want to run large batches and have the space, heat and help to handle it. A full 100 gallon pot is very heavy, so plan where it will sit before you buy.
The 60 gallon kit sits in the middle. If you are torn between 50 and 100, it gives you extra room without doubling the size. Not sure yet? Our guide on what size still you need walks through it, and our 30 gallon copper stills are a good fit if these feel too big.
- 50 gallon kit: $1,099, lowest price for a large copper still
- 50 gallon complete Advanced Model: $1,900, built and ready
- 60 gallon kit: $1,200, a middle size
- 100 gallon kit: $1,699, our biggest size on this page
Complete Still or "EZ KIT": What Comes in the Box
The 50 Gallon Advanced Model is a complete distiller. It includes the pot, a 10 gallon thumper and a 10 gallon worm. The thumper takes vapor from the pot and redistills it, which raises the strength in one run. The worm is the coiled condenser that cools the vapor back into liquid. Learn more in our thumper keg guide.
The "EZ KIT" models are you-solder kits. We cut, roll and form the copper, and you finish the soldering. They are made for people who like hands-on work and want to save money. See all our DIY moonshine still kits for more on how they work. Check each product page for the exact parts in each kit.
Heat Source for a Large Copper Still
Large copper stills are usually heated with a propane burner, because big pots need a lot of steady heat. Slow, even heat matters. Too much heat too fast can scorch the mash on the bottom of the pot.
The product titles here do not list a burner, so plan for one. You can find burners, silver solder, hydrometers and spare pots, thumpers and condensers on our moonshine still parts page. Questions about the right burner? Call the owner at 1-502-337-3944.
Why Heavy Copper Matters at This Size
A big pot holds a lot of weight and gets heated for hours. Thin copper can dent, warp or wear out. That is why we use 20 oz, 22 gauge American copper, which is much heavier than the thin copper on cheap imported stills. Read what thickness copper for a still to see the difference.
Copper also works with the vapor as it moves through the still. Working with copper, heat and vapor this way is the craft of the alchemist. As Alchemist G.G. Wilkins, I can tell you: on a still this big, good copper is the part you never want to skimp on. Our copper stills carry a lifetime warranty.

Is it legal to own a 50 or 100 gallon still?
Under US federal law, you can buy and own a still of any size and use it for distilled water, essential oils and similar non-alcohol uses. Distilling alcohol to drink is not legal without a federal TTB permit, even for personal use. A free TTB fuel alcohol permit lets you make ethanol for fuel, and state and local laws can be stricter, so check yours. Read more in are stills legal to own; we don't give legal advice.
Is a large copper still safe to use?
Our stills are built with lead-free silver solder, so there is no lead in the joints. Always run a large still outdoors or in a well-ventilated space, keep an eye on the heat, and never leave it running alone.
