10 Gallon Copper Moonshine Stills

A 10 gallon copper still is the size many home distillers settle on. It is big enough for real batches of distilled water or essential oils, but still small enough for a garage, shop or barn. Every 10 gallon moonshine still on this page is hand built at Fort Wilkins in Pittsfield, New Hampshire, from thick 20 oz American copper.

Prices run from $599 for our EZ KIT you-solder kit up to $1,499 for the patented FlameFlow™ still. In between, you'll find complete copper stills from $899 and 220V electric models from $1,100. Every still below is in stock. Not sure 10 gallons is right for you? Read our simple guide, What Size Still Do I Need?

How to Choose a 10 Gallon Copper Still

All eight stills on this page hold 10 gallons. The big difference is how they are heated and how much of the work you want to do yourself. Pick the type first, then compare the models inside that type.

  • Complete copper stills ($899 to $1,049): ready to run with a pot, thumper and worm. Heat them with a propane burner.
  • 220V electric stills ($1,100 to $1,299): heated by an electric element instead of a flame. See all electric moonshine stills.
  • Patented FlameFlow™ still ($1,499): our top propane design, built for faster heat-up and even temperature.
  • EZ KIT ($599): the copper parts come to you, and you solder the still together. Learn more about DIY you-solder kits.

Propane or 220V Electric: Picking Your Heat Source

Propane is simple and works anywhere you have good airflow, like outdoors or in an open shed. Our Flame Flow patented stills take propane a step further. The design is covered by U.S. Patent 10,561,960 and is built for faster heat-up, more even temperature, less wasted propane and less scorching on the bottom of the pot.

Electric stills use a 220V heating element, so there is no open flame. That makes heat easier to hold steady. One model on this page lists both the 220V element and a controller right in its name, so read each product title to see what is included. Before you buy, make sure you have a 220V circuit where you plan to run the still. If you are unsure, ask an electrician.

What Comes With a Complete 10 Gallon Moonshine Still

A complete still has three main copper parts. The pot holds your liquid and sits on the heat. The thumper catches the vapor and redistills it, so the run comes out cleaner and stronger. Our thumper keg guide explains how it works. The worm, or condenser, is a coiled copper tube that cools the vapor back into liquid.

This is where you start to work like an alchemist, using heat and copper to separate liquids by their boiling points. Water boils at 212°F (100°C). Ethanol boils lower, at about 173°F (78°C), and methanol lower still, at about 148°F (64°C). Every joint on our stills is made with lead-free silver solder.

Why Heavy 20 oz Copper Matters

Our stills are built from 20 oz, 22 gauge American copper. That is much heavier than the thin copper used on cheap imported stills. Heavy copper holds its shape, spreads heat evenly and stands up to years of heating and cleaning. Our page on what thickness copper for a still explains gauge and ounces in plain terms.

Each still is cut, rolled, formed, soldered, tested, adjusted and inspected before it leaves the building. I stand behind every one, which is why our copper stills carry a lifetime warranty. — Alchemist G.G. Wilkins

Is a 10 Gallon Still the Right Size?

A 10 gallon still sits in the middle of our lineup. It is a good step up if a small still feels too slow, and it is easier to move, store and heat than a big one. If you want something lighter, look at our small and mini copper stills. If you want bigger batches, compare our 15 gallon copper stills.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 10 gallon copper still cost?

Our 10 gallon stills range from $599 to $1,499. The EZ KIT you-solder kit is $599, complete propane stills run $899 to $1,049, and 220V electric models run $1,100 to $1,299. The patented FlameFlow™ still is $1,499.

Is it legal to own a 10 gallon moonshine still?

Under US federal law, it is legal to buy and own a still of any size and use it for distilled water, essential oils and similar non-alcohol uses. Distilling alcohol for drinking at home is not legal without a federal permit from the TTB, even for personal use. A free TTB fuel alcohol permit allows you to make ethanol for fuel. State and local laws vary and can be stricter, so check yours. We don't give legal advice; see are stills legal to own?

What is the difference between the 10 gallon EZ KIT and a complete still?

A complete still arrives soldered, tested and ready to use. The EZ KIT gives you the copper parts, and you solder the still together yourself. It costs less and suits people who like to build things with their hands.

Can I get a 10 gallon still that runs on electric?

Yes. We offer three 10 gallon electric models that use a 220V heating element, priced from $1,100 to $1,299. You will need a 220V circuit where you plan to run the still.
