Moonshine Still Kits Complete with Thumper

A moonshine still kit complete with thumper gives you the three main parts in one order: the copper pot, the thumper, and the worm that cools the vapor back to liquid. Our kits run from 6 to 50 gallons and cost $699 to $1,999. Every one is hand built at Fort Wilkins in Pittsfield, New Hampshire.

Most of the kits below are propane stills. A few are 110V or 220V electric stills with a built-in thumper port. Each one is made from thick 20 oz American copper and lead-free silver solder. Pick your size and heat source, and you have a complete copper still kit ready to set up.

What Comes in a Moonshine Still Kit Complete with Thumper

The product titles tell you what is in the box. Most kits list a pot, a thumper, and a worm, often with sizes like a 6 gallon thumper and 6 gallon worm, or a 10 gallon thumper and worm on the 50 gallon model. Several also list a 1/2 inch copper coil inside the worm.

A few models list an EZ Seal Cap and a 4 inch thumper port instead of a full thumper set. Read each listing so you know exactly what you are getting. If you want to learn what each part does, see what a thumper keg is and how it works.

  • Pot: holds and heats the wash.
  • Thumper: a second chamber that redistills the vapor on its way through.
  • Worm (condenser): a coil sitting in cool water that turns vapor back into liquid.

Choosing the Right Size

Size is measured by how much the pot holds. You only fill a pot about three quarters full, so a 25 gallon still runs less than 25 gallons at a time. Bigger pots take longer to heat but do more per run.

Our kits on this page come in 6, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 50 gallon sizes. A 6 gallon kit at $699 is a good first still for learning. The 25 and 30 gallon models are the middle ground. The 50 gallon kit at $1,900 is for people who want big batches. Our simple sizing guide walks through it step by step.

Propane or Electric Heat

Propane stills sit over a burner. They heat fast and work well outdoors. Most of the copper still kits here are made for propane.

Electric stills use a heating element with a controller, so you can set the heat and keep it steady. Our 6 gallon model runs on 110V, which is a normal household outlet. The 20 gallon model runs on 220V, the kind of outlet used for a dryer. Browse all our electric moonshine stills if you want an indoor-friendly option.

Steady heat matters for any still. Ethanol boils at about 173F (78C) and water at 212F (100C). Good heat control lets you work in that gap, which is where an alchemist earns their skill.

Why Heavy Copper Matters

Cheap thin imported stills can dent, warp and wear out. We build with 20 oz, 22 gauge American copper, which is much heavier. Thick copper spreads heat more evenly and holds its shape for years. Learn more about copper thickness, gauge and ounces.

Every seam is joined with lead-free silver solder. Each still is cut, rolled, formed, soldered, tested, adjusted and inspected before it leaves the building. That is why we back our copper stills with a lifetime warranty.

I build these the way I would want my own still built: heavy copper, clean seams, no shortcuts. - Alchemist G.G. Wilkins

Who These Kits Are For (and the Law)

These kits suit anyone who wants a full copper setup without hunting for parts. They work for distilled water, essential oils, and fuel alcohol.

Under US federal law, you can legally buy and own a still of any size and use it for water or essential oils. Distilling alcohol to drink at home is not legal without a federal permit from the TTB, even for personal use. A free TTB fuel alcohol permit lets you make ethanol for fuel. State and local laws vary and can be stricter, so check yours. We don't give legal advice. Read more in are stills legal to own?

Frequently asked questions

What is the best moonshine still kit complete with thumper for a beginner?

A smaller kit is easiest to learn on. Our 6 Gallon Complete Copper Moonshine Still with Thumper and Worm is $699 and includes all three main parts. It heats up fast and is simple to set up and clean.

What does a thumper do on a moonshine kit?

The thumper sits between the pot and the worm. Hot vapor bubbles through it and gets redistilled once more on the way. This gives a stronger, cleaner run in one pass.

Is a complete moonshine still kit legal to own?

Yes. Under US federal law you can buy and own a still of any size and use it for water or essential oils. Making alcohol to drink requires a federal TTB permit, even for personal use, and state laws can be stricter. We don't give legal advice.

Should I buy a copper still kit or a stainless one?

Copper spreads heat evenly and is the traditional choice for pot stills. Our kits use thick 20 oz American copper with lead-free silver solder. Heavy copper also lasts longer than thin imported metal.

How much does a moonshine still kit cost?

The kits on this page cost $699 to $1,999. Price mostly depends on pot size and heat source. The 6 gallon kit starts at $699 and the 50 gallon kit is $1,900.

Can I get help with my moonshine still kit after I buy it?

Yes. Call 1-502-337-3944 for support from the owner. Orders check out through our sister store, MoonshineStills.com.
