This 3 gallon copper moonshine still is a small, simple unit sold without a thumper. It is hand built at Fort Wilkins in Pittsfield, New Hampshire, and offered as a limited flash sale. The $229 price already covers shipping to the continental USA. Its 3 gallon pot makes it a good first still for a new alchemist learning how copper, heat and vapor work together. It also makes a handsome conversation piece on a shelf.
We build our stills from thick 20 oz, 22 gauge American copper, which is much heavier than the thin copper on cheap imported stills. Every joint is made with lead-free silver solder. Your still ships polished, but copper oxidizes fast, so it will darken over time unless you polish it. Want more room to grow? How much will this small still make per run?
Not much. This is a very small still, and the output per run is usually around 10% of the pot size. It is best as a starter still or a display piece, not for big batches.
Will my still arrive shiny like the picture?
Yes, we ship it polished, and the picture shows that polished look. Copper oxidizes fast, though, so it will start to darken. If you want it to stay bright, you will need to polish it from time to time.
Is it legal to own this still?
Under US federal law it is legal to buy and own a still of any size, and to use it for distilled water, essential oils and similar non-alcohol uses. Distilling alcohol for drinking at home is not legal without a federal permit from the TTB, even for personal use, though a free TTB fuel alcohol permit lets you make ethanol for fuel.
