Electric Moonshine Stills

An electric moonshine still heats with a built-in heating element instead of an open flame. You plug it in, set the heat, and get steady, even warmth you can repeat every run. Our electric copper stills come in 6, 10, 15, 20 and 25 gallon sizes, priced from $999 to $1,299.

Every still is hand built at Fort Wilkins in Pittsfield, New Hampshire, from thick 20 oz, 22 gauge American copper and lead-free silver solder. Just need the heat source? Our 110V and 220V electric heating elements with controllers run $349 to $449.

In short
  • Our electric copper stills come in 6 to 25 gallon sizes and cost $999 to $1,299.
  • Pick 110V for a standard outlet or 220V for bigger stills on a dryer-style circuit.
  • Each still is hand built from 20 oz, 22 gauge American copper with lead-free silver solder and has a lifetime warranty.

How to Choose an Electric Moonshine Still

Start with your power. An electric still is only as good as the outlet it plugs into, so check what you have before you pick a model. Then pick a size that fits how much you want to run at once.

A controller matters too. It lets you turn the heat up or down, so you can bring the pot up slowly and hold it steady. Steady heat is the alchemist's best tool. Water boils at 212°F (100°C) and ethanol at about 173°F (78°C), so small heat changes make a big difference in what comes out of the worm.

  • 110V: plugs into a standard household outlet. Offered on our 6 gallon models.
  • 220V: needs a 220/240V circuit, like the kind a clothes dryer uses. Offered on our 10, 15, 20 and 25 gallon models.
  • Not sure what you have? Ask an electrician before you order.

Picking a Size: 6 to 25 Gallons

A 6 gallon still is a good first still. It is easy to move, easy to clean and runs on 110V. See more small options on our small copper stills page.

A 10 gallon still is the middle ground, with room for bigger batches without taking over your space. Browse all of them on our 10 gallon copper stills page. The 15, 20 and 25 gallon models are for people who want to run more per batch. Compare the big ones on our 20 and 25 gallon stills page.

What Comes in an Electric Moonshine Still Kit

Listings marked Complete include the full copper setup: the pot, a thumper and a worm (condenser). The pot heats your liquid into vapor. The thumper redistills that vapor once more. The worm cools the vapor back into liquid.

Read each product title to see the exact parts. Here is what our electric listings include:

  • A 110V or 220V electric heating element on every still in this group.
  • A controller on listings that name one, such as the 6, 10 and 25 gallon models that say w/ controller.
  • An EZ Seal Cap and a 4 inch thumper port on the 6 gallon and 20 gallon models that list them.
  • Need a spare or upgrade? Find elements and more on our moonshine still parts page.

Why Heavy Copper Electric Stills Last

Cheap thin imported stills dent easily and can wear out fast. We build ours from 20 oz, 22 gauge American copper, which is much heavier. Copper also spreads heat well and reacts with sulfur compounds in the vapor. Learn more in our guide on what thickness copper to use.

I cut, roll, form, solder, test, adjust and inspect every still before it leaves Fort Wilkins. We use only lead-free silver solder, and every copper still is backed by our lifetime warranty. — Alchemist G.G. Wilkins

Frequently asked questions

What is the best electric moonshine still for a beginner?

For most beginners, a 6 gallon 110V electric still is the easiest start. It plugs into a normal household outlet and is simple to move and clean. If you have a 220V outlet and want bigger batches, a 10 gallon model is a good next step.

Should I get a 110V or 220V electric still?

It depends on your power. A 110V still plugs into a standard household outlet, and we offer it on our 6 gallon models. Our 10 to 25 gallon electric stills use 220V, which needs a 220/240V circuit like a dryer outlet.

Can I add an electric heater to my moonshine still?

We sell 110V and 220V electric heating elements with controllers for $349 to $449. You can add one to a still order. Call us at 1-502-337-3944 if you want to ask whether an element fits the still you plan to buy.

What comes with an electric moonshine still kit?

Our complete electric stills include a copper pot, a thumper and a worm (condenser), plus a heating element. Many listings also include a controller, and some add an EZ Seal Cap and 4 inch thumper port. Check each product title for the exact parts.

Are electric copper stills legal to own?

Under US federal law, it is legal to buy and own a still of any size and use it for distilled water, essential oils and similar non-alcohol uses. Distilling alcohol at home for drinking is not legal without a federal permit from the TTB, even for personal use. A free TTB fuel alcohol permit allows making ethanol for fuel. State and local laws vary and can be stricter, so check yours. Read more in our guide to whether stills are legal to own. We don't give legal advice.
