How to Choose a Copper Still for Sale
Start with three questions. How much do you want to make in one run? How will you heat it? Do you want a full setup or just the pot? Answer those and the right copper still gets easy to spot.
Size is the big one. A 3 to 6 gallon still is small and good for learning. A 10 to 15 gallon still is the most common middle size. A 20 to 30 gallon still is for people who want bigger batches. Our 50 gallon still is the largest on this page. Our simple sizing guide can help you choose.
- 3 to 6 gallons: small, easy to store, good first still
- 10 to 15 gallons: a solid all-around size
- 20 to 30 gallons: bigger batches, more room for the thumper
- 50 gallons: our largest still on this page
Propane, Electric, or Flame Flow™ Copper Stills
Standard copper stills are heated from below, most often with a propane burner. Our electric moonshine stills come with a heating element and controller. The 6 gallon models use 110V. The 10, 15, 20 and 25 gallon electric models use 220V.
Flame Flow™ stills use our patented design (U.S. Patent 10,561,960). It is built for faster heat-up, more even temperature, less wasted propane and less scorching. You can read more on our Flame Flow page.
What Comes With a Complete Copper Still
Many stills here are listed as complete. That means a pot, a thumper and a worm (condenser). The pot holds and heats the liquid. The thumper redistills the vapor on its way through. The worm is a copper coil that cools the vapor back into liquid. Several of our listings call out a 6 gallon or 10 gallon thumper and worm with a 1/2 inch coil. Learn more about the thumper keg.
Some models also include our EZ Seal cap and a 4 inch thumper port. Electric models include the element and controller. Need a hydrometer, burner or solder? See our still parts and accessories.
Why Heavy American Copper Matters
Cheap thin imported stills can dent, warp or wear out fast. We build with 20 oz, 22 gauge copper, which is much heavier. Each still is cut, rolled, formed, soldered, tested, adjusted and inspected before it leaves our building. Here is what copper thickness means in plain terms.
As Alchemist G.G. Wilkins, I build these stills the way I'd want my own built: heavy copper, clean solder joints, and a warranty I stand behind. If you have a question, call me at 1-502-337-3944.
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to buy a copper still?
Yes. Under US federal law you can buy and own a still of any size. You can use it for distilled water, essential oils and similar non-alcohol uses. Making alcohol to drink at home is not legal without a federal TTB permit, even for personal use, and state and local laws can be stricter. See are stills legal to own, and note that we don't give legal advice.
How much does a copper still cost?
On this page, copper stills for sale run from $229 to $2,999. Small 6 gallon complete stills start at $699. Our 50 gallon still with a 10 gallon thumper and worm is $1,900.
What is a copper distiller?
A copper distiller is another name for a copper still. It heats a liquid, turns part of it into vapor, and cools that vapor back into liquid. Our complete copper distillers include a pot, thumper and worm.
Should I buy an electric still or a propane still?
Electric stills come with a heating element and controller, so heat is easy to adjust. Propane stills need a burner and good airflow. Flame Flow™ stills are built to heat up faster and use less propane.
What warranty comes with your copper stills?
All of our copper stills carry a lifetime warranty. Each still is tested and inspected before it ships from Fort Wilkins.
