- Every still here is hand built in New Hampshire from thick 20 oz, 22 gauge American copper with lead-free silver solder.
- Choose from 3 to 50 gallons, priced $229 to $2,999, with propane, 110V/220V electric or patented Flame Flow™ heat.
- Owning a still is federally legal, but distilling spirits to drink needs a TTB permit, so check your laws.
Why Buy an American Made Copper Still
Copper is the classic still metal. It spreads heat well and has been used by distillers for centuries. But not all copper is the same. Many cheap imported stills use thin copper that dents easily and can wear out fast.
Our stills use 20 oz, 22 gauge American copper. That is much heavier than the thin sheet on cheap imports. Heavier copper holds its shape, handles heat better, and lasts. Learn more in our guide to what thickness copper you need for a still.
We also join every seam with lead-free silver solder, so there is no lead in the build.
Pick the Right Size
Size is the gallons the pot holds. A bigger pot runs more in one batch, but it takes longer to heat and needs more space. Here is how the stills on this page break down:
- 3 to 6 gallons ($229 to $1,199): small, easy to store, good for learning.
- 10 to 15 gallons ($899 to $1,999): the most popular middle range.
- 20 to 30 gallons ($899 to $2,999): bigger batches for experienced users.
- 50 gallons ($1,900): our largest still shown here, with a 10 gallon thumper and 10 gallon worm.

Choose Your Heat Source: Propane, Electric or Flame Flow
Standard copper stills heat on a burner, usually propane. They are simple and work almost anywhere outdoors.
Electric moonshine stills come with a heating element and a controller. The 6 gallon models run on 110V. The 10, 15, 20 and 25 gallon models run on 220V. A controller lets you set and hold your heat.
Our patented Flame Flow™ stills (U.S. Patent 10,561,960) are built for faster heat-up, more even temperature, less wasted propane and less scorching. They come in 6, 10 and 30 gallon sizes.
What Comes With a Complete Copper Still
A complete still has three main parts. The pot holds and heats your liquid. The thumper takes in hot vapor and redistills it, so what comes out is stronger and cleaner. The worm is a coiled copper tube in cold water that cools the vapor back into liquid. See How a Moonshine Still Works for a simple diagram.
Read each product title for the details. Many Advanced Models list a 6 gallon thumper, 6 gallon worm and 1/2 inch coil. Some add an EZ Seal Cap and a 4 inch thumper port. Electric models include the element and controller. The Copper Proofing Parrot ($119) is sold on its own. Want to learn more about the middle piece? Read What Is a Thumper Keg?

Frequently asked questions
Are moonshine stills made in USA legal to own?
Under US federal law, it is legal to buy and own a still of any size. You can use it for distilled water, essential oils and other non-alcohol uses. Distilling alcohol to drink is not legal without a federal TTB permit, even for personal use. A free TTB fuel alcohol permit allows making ethanol for fuel, and state and local laws can be stricter. Read Are Stills Legal to Own? and check your local laws, as we don't give legal advice.
Where are American Copper Works stills made?
Our stills are hand built at Fort Wilkins in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. Each one is cut, rolled, formed, soldered, tested, adjusted and inspected in our building before it ships.
What copper do American copper stills use?
We use thick 20 oz, 22 gauge American copper. It is much heavier than the thin copper found on many cheap imported stills. All seams use lead-free silver solder.
Why does a still need a thumper?
A thumper takes the hot vapor from the pot and redistills it. That gives you a stronger, cleaner product in a single run. Most complete stills on this page include one.
Should I pick an electric or propane copper still?
Propane stills are simple and work outdoors almost anywhere. Electric stills let you set and hold heat with a controller and run on 110V or 220V depending on size. Flame Flow stills are a propane option built for faster, more even heat.
What warranty comes with your copper stills?
Our copper stills carry a lifetime warranty. Call the owner at 1-502-337-3944 with any questions.
