Is it legal to own a copper thumper and still?
Under US federal law, you can legally buy and own a still of any size and use it for distilled water, essential oils and other non-alcohol uses. Distilling alcohol to drink at home is not legal without a federal TTB permit, even for personal use. A free TTB fuel alcohol permit lets you make ethanol for fuel.
